Guitar Tricks Review
Where do I start with this review? Guitar Tricks is the oldest video guitar lessons website on the net, online since 1998, when it took over an hour to download anything of size. Long-time guitarist Jon Broderick started the site struggling to find accurate tabs and good information about playing guitar.
Today Guitar Tricks is the mecca of guitar lesson sites with over 3,000 video lessons for $10.95 a month. The lessons are taught by absolute experts, professionals who put food on the table by playing guitar. I find the techniques and tricks they teach to be unique and rare.
You don't find the same old, “This is how to play the Am Pentatonic Scale, this is how to play the C chord...” at Guitar Tricks. You find this with the absolute beginner material, but what impresses me with the site is that it's so diverse in skill level (beginner to expert), and you can browse lessons based on both genre (so diverse there's even Surf) and influences such as Eddie Van Halen for instance.
I have a drawer full of DVDs by all of the top pros like Frank Gambale, John Petrucci, and Michael Angelo Batio. All of which cost me roughly $500. Jon Broderick's site has videos that show you how to play the same sort of techniques I paid out the rear for. Valuable doesn't quite describe the site, more like invaluable.
I learn more in one day with the website than I used to in a month. The navigation is very fluent. The lessons are dense with great material.
But there are some downsides. While Guitar Tricks may be literally 10 times cheaper than even taking private lessons and great for progressing quickly, some of the older videos have bad lighting and not the greatest sound quality. For instance, there's a killer 8 to 10 video tapping lesson I'd like to tackle, but it must have been uploaded on the site carelessly near the beginning of the site. That said, there are tabs along with the videos that aren't booming with visual quality, so it's not too big of an issue.
Another downside we have is that there's not a private teacher correcting your technique every step of the way. Sites like JamPlay have less valuable content in my opinion, but may be better for the beginner because there's literally a staff of guitar teachers who can work with you one-on-one online. For the better guitarists, intermediates and advanced, there's no topping Guitar Tricks.
What makes Guitar Tricks so special for the advanced player, I think, is that they're are lessons that will take you to expert levels unlike any other site I've used. You can learn exact techniques that are used by heroes like Paul Gilbert, Joe Satriani, and Jimi Hendrix. That was all I needed to know before I became part of the site.
In comparison to YouTube videos, you can take all day filtering out the crummy videos taught by average guitarists in their bedrooms or you can use GT. For those of us who don't have but an hour a day to practice anymore, you surf one great lesson after another. It's remarkable what you learn in just one day.

Barbie Games
When we let our little girls play with dolls, we are allowing them to exercise their imagination and creativity. It's also how they mimic the things that they see going on around them. One of the innovations that lets girls even become more creative are Barbie games. They come in a variety of forms for example, video games, online computer games, story book games and even vinyl sticky Barbie games. Barbie is of course the main character.
Online, you can dress the Barbie doll. In one version, she is in a store trying to make a decision on what to get. There are long and short dresses, and you can also change her hair color and hairstyle.
The fashion conscious aren't left out. There are tons of accessories like shoes, handbags, jewelry, and hosiery and so on. In another game, you find Barbie surrounded by loads of glamorous dresses and you get to pick what you like and dress her in it. You can also change her lip color and make up. It's actually a lot of fun.
There are also Barbie games where you go on adventures with Barbie. These are based on some of the Barbie movies and it doesn't matter if you haven't seen the movie. It's still fun and easy to play. Your little girl is promised a lot of fun with these games, and as a parent one should know that the content is suitable as they are aimed for young girls. Hypnosis And The Unlimited Power Of The Mind
The power of your Mind is truly awesome. You can use your mental powers to achieve success that, up until now, you have only ever dreamed of. It is a Universal truth that life tends to move you towards the physical equivalent of your predominant thoughts and feelings. A great many people are well aware of this fact but most find it extremely difficult to apply this knowledge and put it to work effectively in their lives. Are you one of those people? If you are, then do not worry because I am about to show you how to overcome this little problem.
It seems to most of us that our thoughts are random, sometimes erratic and beyond our control. Our emotions truly do run us most of the time. When we have an emotional response to a thing we tend to go into automatic thinking as the subconscious programs in our mind take over. All too often these programs are just rehashed memories that create negative emotions and negative thoughts that hinder us from moving in the life direction that we really want. Our dominant thoughts and feelings are usually negative in nature due to the conditioning that has taken over on this planet.
The real power you wield is the conscious ability to change your dominant automatic thinking. By doing so you can ensure your feelings and thoughts are more positive in nature, more aligned with your desires and are therefore creating the life experiences that you want. This may sound like a tall order but there are many great techniques and tools to accomplish this. One of the best tools to recondition your mind for success is self hypnosis.
Hypnosis has been used by wise men and women for centuries to create relaxed physical and mental states and condition the mind to respond differently to outside stimuli. It is just as relevant and effective today as it ever has been. In fact with technological breakthroughs and advances in mind conditioning it is possible to create profound lasting change with self hypnosis recordings.
Many of the new recordings, by the best hypnotherapists, include binaural beat technology which entrains the brain to enter into specific mental states ideal for learning and reconditioning, and NLP exercises. There are a great many recordings that are of poor quality, both in their sound and their suggestions, so beware. However, ther are some excellent pre-made sessions on subjects that are as varied as the people who use them.
It is, however, possible for you to enter a hypnotic trance by yourself and then give yourself carefully chosen post-hypnotic suggestions, with just as much power as any hypnotist. These can be a list of simple affirmations that you mentally repeat while in the deeper stages of trance. I find it better to use pre-made recordings or have my own custom hypnosis CDs made as I like to let my mind wander during the trance state.
The trance state is so relaxing that most times you don't really want to leave it as the conscious mind becomes extremely lazy while hypnotized. This is why I prefer pre-made sessions or to visit a trained hypnotherapist.
However, if you prefer to perform your own hypnotic session, which many people do, you must first ensure that you have a clear intention about your purpose and the objective you have in mind before you enter into a hypnotic state. Ask yourself what you want to achieve from the hypnotic session.
You can use self hypnosis and post hypnotic suggestions very effectively to make any mental or emotional change you can think of.
Once you have decided what it is you want to achieve from your hypnotic session write a few affirmations that reflect your desires. Make sure you word these statements in the first persona and also in the third person, as though you were talking to someone else with your name. For example if you wish to develop more confidence you would write "I grow more confident everyday" and "[state your name] you grow more confident everyday".
Also form a mental picture of what that new confident you looks like. Imagine how you will feel when you have that new found confidence. Exactly how does that "other" you walk with confidence? How does that "you" talk with confidence? How does the "other you" react to everyday life, stressful situations and other people? How does that confident you think, dress and what is their approach life?
This picture is very important. During trance you will picture that confident you standing before you and bring it to life in your mind's eye. Then you will step into this confident you and actually become that person. Afterwards you should recite your affirmations while thinking, feeling and imagining you walk, talk, dress and approach life as this confident "other" you!
This form of self hypnosis incorporates NLP and is used to directly program your subconscious so that it will help you create that confident you in the real world. The affirmations act as post-hypnotic suggestions which reinforce the NLP work and ensure your subconscious mind holds the correct "self-talk" that you are constantly involved in during the day. This inner dialogue can make or break a person and it is important to program your mind with positive messages.
To create a state of trance in order to perform these mental sequences is quite easy. First find a quiet restful place where you will not be disturbed. Once there sit or lie down in a comfortable position. Keep your head looking straight ahead and lift your eyes to look at a spot on the wall just above eye level.
Count from 20 down to 10 in a slow manner until you feel your eyes start to strain. You will want to close them. Allow your eyelids to close and continue counting until you reach the number 1.
Then imagine that a long winding staircase with 20 steps is there in front of you. Move to the first step as you mentally say, "20. Going down, down, down. Deeper, deeper and ever deeper. Then take the next step and say, "19. Deeper and deeper still". Then move to the next step and say, "18. Going down, down, down. Deeper, deeper and ever deeper. Then the next saying, "17. Deeper and deeper still."
Continue this until you reach the last step and imagine that the staircase has led you to a door. Open the door. Open it and see what is there. This is your special sanctuary where you are relaxed and safe at all times.
Once you enter your sanctuary perform the mental exercise given above. When you are finished your exercises, count up from 1 to 10 telling yourself that you are becoming wide awake with every number. You will find that when you return to normal consciousness you are fully revitalized yet calm and relaxed. Perform your self hypnosis everyday for 30 days and you will have created permanent changes in your mind and body. Now that you understand the process involved with self hypnosis and now have the skills to bring yourself into a hypnotic trance, the changes you can make and results you can create are only limited by your imagination! It is, however, possible for you to enter a hypnotic trance by yourself and then give yourself carefully chosen post-hypnotic suggestions, with just as much power as any hypnotist. These can be a list of simple affirmations that you mentally repeat while in the deeper stages of trance. I find it better to use pre-made recordings or have my own custom hypnosis CDs made as I like to let my mind wander during the trance state.
The trance state is so relaxing that most times you don't really want to leave it as the conscious mind becomes extremely lazy while hypnotized. This is why I prefer pre-made sessions or to visit a trained hypnotherapist.
However, if you prefer to perform your own hypnotic session, which many people do, you must first ensure that you have a clear intention about your purpose and the objective you have in mind before you enter into a hypnotic state. Ask yourself what you want to achieve from the hypnotic session.
You can use self hypnosis and post hypnotic suggestions very effectively to make any mental or emotional change you can think of.
Once you have decided what it is you want to achieve from your hypnotic session write a few affirmations that reflect your desires. Make sure you word these statements in the first persona and also in the third person, as though you were talking to someone else with your name. For example if you wish to develop more confidence you would write "I grow more confident everyday" and "[state your name] you grow more confident everyday".
Also form a mental picture of what that new confident you looks like. Imagine how you will feel when you have that new found confidence. Exactly how does that "other" you walk with confidence? How does that "you" talk with confidence? How does the "other you" react to everyday life, stressful situations and other people? How does that confident you think, dress and what is their approach life?
This picture is very important. During trance you will picture that confident you standing before you and bring it to life in your mind's eye. Then you will step into this confident you and actually become that person. Afterwards you should recite your affirmations while thinking, feeling and imagining you walk, talk, dress and approach life as this confident "other" you!
This form of self hypnosis incorporates NLP and is used to directly program your subconscious so that it will help you create that confident you in the real world. The affirmations act as post-hypnotic suggestions which reinforce the NLP work and ensure your subconscious mind holds the correct "self-talk" that you are constantly involved in during the day. This inner dialogue can make or break a person and it is important to program your mind with positive messages.
To create a state of trance in order to perform these mental sequences is quite easy. First find a quiet restful place where you will not be disturbed. Once there sit or lie down in a comfortable position. Keep your head looking straight ahead and lift your eyes to look at a spot on the wall just above eye level.
Count from 20 down to 10 in a slow manner until you feel your eyes start to strain. You will want to close them. Allow your eyelids to close and continue counting until you reach the number 1.
Then imagine that a long winding staircase with 20 steps is there in front of you. Move to the first step as you mentally say, "20. Going down, down, down. Deeper, deeper and ever deeper. Then take the next step and say, "19. Deeper and deeper still". Then move to the next step and say, "18. Going down, down, down. Deeper, deeper and ever deeper. Then the next saying, "17. Deeper and deeper still."
Continue this until you reach the last step and imagine that the staircase has led you to a door. Open the door. Open it and see what is there. This is your special sanctuary where you are relaxed and safe at all times.
Once you enter your sanctuary perform the mental exercise given above. When you are finished your exercises, count up from 1 to 10 telling yourself that you are becoming wide awake with every number. You will find that when you return to normal consciousness you are fully revitalized yet calm and relaxed. Perform your self hypnosis everyday for 30 days and you will have created permanent changes in your mind and body. Now that you understand the process involved with self hypnosis and now have the skills to bring yourself into a hypnotic trance, the changes you can make and results you can create are only limited by your imagination! I am sure that Brocade would not be even half the company it is today without Greg's enthusiastic and dedicated leadership.

Hearing Impaired? Hearing Aids? Advice for “Deafies” and those who put up with us
I have always had a hearing impairment. I was born with a 70% hearing loss in both ears. While I had a mother who was sensitive to my disability, I never believed there was anything wrong wth me. As a child, I refused to wear hearing aids.
When, at 19 years-of-age, I bought one hearing aid, it was as if someone turned the sound up. I felt even more invincible. By the time I was 30, I knew I needed aids in both ears. It was not for 25 more years that I would learn that hearing aids alone were not enough.
Granted, most persons who don’t hear very well do need hearing aids. If they think they will look stupid wearing aids, these people have no idea how stupid they appear to others without them. When one gives crazy answers to sane questions ~ and misunderstands what others say ~ they don’t appear to be very bright. Amplification normally helps a great deal, even if perfect hearing is not attainable for many of us.
Consider this: Use of hearing aids might prevent you from being diagnosed as senile when you get older or loose the understanding companion who has always made allowances for you.
Yet, even with good hearing aids, I have only now come come to understand that it is my responsibility to not do those things which irritate normal hearing people ~ when I can control those very things.
If I am in another room, I have no business asking questions ~ or initiating conversations ~ which I will likely not hear right. To do so can only cause a person with normal hearing to take on unearned aggravation.
If I wish to engage in a conversation, I should make certain that the other person is close enough for me to have the best chance of hearing. And when others speak to me, ask that they do so in a hearing environment where I will understand ~ “Because I don’t want to ask you repeat yourself.” I expect the same courtesy of others that they should reasonably expect of me.
When I enter a room and see some people cocking their heads, looking at the ceiling confused, I should be sensitive enough to realize that my hearing aids are probably on too loud without someone asking, “What’s that noise?” Yes, often in an effort to hear better, I have cranked my hearing aids up to a point of “Feedback” which ~ although I can not hear it ~ many people do. Frustrated, associates have screamed, “You’re beeping!” Perhaps, my right to hear should be restricted to the point where other people’s sanity endures?
I have great difficulty communicating on the telephone. It was not uncommon for me to already be on the phone and to request assistance of the closest person to me to be my ears ~ for just a moment. I expected that person to drop everything and help me. How unfair? I have sense learned to say, “In a few minutes, I need to make a call. When you are free, would you mind being my ears if I need some?” I no longer expect everyone to allow me to interrupt them just because ~ through my lack of planning ~ I need help “Now!”
While I am on the subject, we who require special effort on other’s part to engage in conversation with us, need to learn not to begin talking to them if they are engaged in an activity which will necessitate their relocation to accommodate us, allow us to see their lips, etc.
Hopefully, I’ve learned I don’t have to talk all of the time. All of my life, I had attempted to masquerade as a normal person. The fact is, if you can’t hear ~ you are not normal! While really not wanting my captive audience to talk ~ because I knew that I would not be able to hear what they said ~ it was much easier to talk than to listen.
Now, I tell the truth. “I can’t hear what you are saying. It is not your fault, but my poor hearing. Please speak more loudly to me. And if I give you an inappropriate response, I will not be offended if you tell me that you don’t think that I understood what you said. In fact, I’d really appreciate it.”
My best advice to persons who can’t hear: Don’t try to “Fake it.” Maybe, you will get away with making like you understand the conversations? Yet, more than likely ~ and more often than you will ever know ~ others will think that you really didn’t care what they had to say.
